Morpheus recounts humanity's history with artificial intelligence, explaining how a singular consciousness spawned an entire race of machines. The conflict between humans and machines led to catastrophic consequences, including humanity's decision to scorch the sky to deprive machines of solar power. Human beings are no longer born but grown in fields, where their bodies are harvested for bioelectricity and heat. Neo struggles to accept them. His disbelief manifests in panic as he demands to be let out. Despite Neo's distress, Morpheus remains calm and supportive, encouraging him to breathe and process the information
